Biography:
Born on 30th November, 1974 in Kolkata, in
a music loving family, Avijit was inducted into Indian Classical
Music under the influence of his uncle Sitarist Pt. Ranjan
Ganguly.
Avijit started learning Sarod in 1990 under the guidance
of late Prof. Dhyanesh Khan, son of the legendary maestro
Ustad Ali Akbar Khan of Maihar Gharana. Presently, Avijit
is a disciple of Ustad Ashish Khan. He also receives
guidance from Pt. Tejendra Mazumdar.
Avijit secured the first position in the All India Radio
competition in 1996 and also received President's Gold
Medal. He is a regular B-high artist of AIR and TV. He
holds a first class M.A. in instrumental music of the
Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.
He has also received a gold medal at the University
exams. The Salt Lake Cultural Association awarded him
the coveted Jadubhatta Puraskar in 1998. His first album
has been released by Raga Music.
Avijit's major performances include Sutanuti Parishad
; AIR Award Ceremony at Allahabad ; several music circles
in Kolkata ; Aurobindo Ashram (Delhi) ; Habitat World
(Delhi) ; Bangladesh TV. Participated in the RAINFOREST
WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL 2002 IN MALAYSIA as the first indian
musician and my concerts are at SANGEET PIYASI, RAMKRISHNA
MISSION [GOL PARK], Kolkata.
Sutanuti Parishad, South Calcutta Doctors Club, NATIONAL
PRESS CLUB[DHAKA], Haldia music circle, Dover lane music
conference year 2000, Citizens committee, Suvham music
circle, Medha, etc. have been highly acclaimed by the
audience and the press who hailed him as a promising
young talent.
