Biography:
Scott Morris began playing the guitar at the age of nine. At the age of seventeen, Scott moved to Los Angeles to continue his studies and received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern California . He earned a Masters degree at Yale University followed by a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Claremont Graduate University . A regular at international music festivals, he has participated in the Holland Music Sessions in Alkmaar, the Internationalen Sommerakademie at the Mozerteum in Salzburg, Austria, three consecutive summers at the Aspen Music Festival with the Grammy Award winning guitarist, Sha ron Isbin, as well as festivals in Hawaii, Oregon, Connecticut and California, among others. In master classes, Scott has played for Pepe Romero, Eliot Fisk, David Russell, Norbert Kraft, David Leisner, David Tanenbaum and Anthony Newman, just to name a few. His primary teachers have been William Kanengeiser , Scott Tennant , John Dearman , Sha ron Isbin , Jack Sanders and Benjamin Verdery .
Mr. Morris gave his New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall in April of 1998. The American String Teachers Association, Claremont Graduate University , Artists International, The Aspen Music Festival, CSU Summer Arts, The Glendale Symphony, The USC Thornton School of Music and the Yale School of Music have awarded Mr. Morris various scholarships and prizes. Radio appearances include Music of the Americas on KPFK in Los Angeles , John Schneider ’s Soundboard, WYSO in Ohio , WHBN in Lexington , Kentucky and KRSC in Tulsa , Oklahoma .
In addition to being a prolific soloist, he tours and records as a member of the Hollywood Guitar Duo with the virtuoso Japanese guitarist, Isamu Nakashio. Scott ’s debut CD, Invocation, was produced by John Dearman (Los Angeles Guitar Quartet) and includes works by Rodrigo, Paganini , York , Brouwer, Falla, and Mertz and is available on Eroica Classical Recordings. A CD of classical themes and variations, performed on a replica of an early 19 th century Viennese guitar, is scheduled for release in late 2004 as well as a book on early 19 th century performance practice. Scott currently lives in Los Angeles , California and teaches music at Fullerton College , Cerritos College and Los Angeles Harbor College .
